Doctor M & Others: In my Taber's dictionary (early 1990s, so I'm not up-to-date yet), page 1442 under polycystic ovary syndrome, it says: An endocrine disturbance that causes primary anovulation and polycystic ovaries due to the continued stimulation of the ovary by pituitary luteinizing hormone. TREAT: Clomiphene, gonadotropins, or wedge resection of the ovary.

My Mosby's (pg 899, early 1990s) says depending on the severity of symptoms and whether or not the patient wants to become pregnant, treatment involves suppression of hormonal stimulation of the ovary, usually using female hormones or resection of part of one or both ovaries.

I'm getting confused by these. I've always thought that Clomid==ovarian stimulation. Perhaps the folks at Mosby haven't read Tabers? Any ideas now?
