elevated HCG levels after ectopic pregnancy

On July 5th I was taken to the hospital for an emergency operation as a result of an ectopic pg. I had been pg for 7½ weeks. Two years ago I also had an ectopic pg in my left tube and that tube had been removed. This time it was again on the left side. (A chance of one in a million?) Currently I am recovering from the surgery, but the past two weeks I felt as if I were pregnant again. My gyneacologist decided to do some tests to see how my HCG levels were. Last monday my levels were tested and it was 276. Too high. Today I had a second test and it had only slightly come down to 271. Next monday I have to come back for a third test and then there will be decided what will happen next. As I was too flabbergasted about this unexpected development I would like to pose my questions now in this forum: What does this mean? It certainly could mean there is some 'rest' of a pg left. Is it dangerous, I mean, am I a walking time-bomb again like when it was ectopic. (I should report to the Emergency room immediately when I would feel any pain and/or have a bleeding during the weekend). What is likely to happen next? Will I need new surgery? Please, I would like to know as much as possible to prepare myself!
