Can birth control pills lead to fibroid growth?

Now that my son is born, Ionce again need to be concerned about birth control. I am 32, don't smoke, and am in great health. I was on birth control pills for 13 years prior to this first pregnancy. I was on either Ortho Novum or Ortho Cyclene. I really loved the ease & convenience of taking pills, and the regularity of my cycle with pills. However, while pregnant I was found to have at least 5 fibroids, one at which peaked at 8 cm. My question is, since pills mimic female hormones, can they also act like estrogen & contribute to fibroid growth? Perhaps being on pills for so long contributed to the growth of my fibroids? Is it wise for me to go back on pills, and if so, could you good doctors give me recommendations on what kind might be best in my situation? I would like to get pregnant again in 3-4 years, so pills again would be most convenient.

Thanks again for your help!
