Re: resquesting information about progesterone suppositoriesFrom: AnnMarie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Jul 1997 13:47:39 +0000
I've read that type of treatment is controversial also, but let me tell you my story. When I was perhaps 6 weeks preg with my first child, I developed rather bad cramps and some minor bleeding. Ultrasounds showed everything was okay, but a lab test said that my progesterone was a little on the low side. I was prescribed progesterone suppositories. I think I took them twice a day (and HATED them), but they seemed to work. The bleeding and pains stopped. I went on to deliver my baby at term. Even though I've never actually had a m/c I sometimes can feel like I did. I was in denial at the beginning that it was a possibility, and got scolded by coworkers when I showed up for work the next day and had to leave after only an hour. ---------DOCTORS--Be specific with your patients who should be on bedrest. Tell them exactly how long and what to/not to do. Since my nurse (the only person I could get on the phone) only said to lay down, I made up my own interpretation and did what I wanted and continued to deny. The doctors app't the next day was cancelled when someone walked into the office in full labor ready to push the baby out, but they still did the U/S. By the time I saw the MD I started the suppositories and they were working. AnnMarie
