Mammograms and breastfeedingFrom: C.R. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Jul 1997 08:51:35 -0500 (CDT)
I had a routine mammogram about 2 months after stopping breastfeeding (I had breastfed for a year). The radiologist called me back for a magnification view, because she saw a suspicious pattern of microcalcifications. She was just as concerned after the second view, so I had to see a surgeon and get a biopsy. The biopsy didn't turn up anything, and the surgeon (and the cytologist) felt 99+% sure that the mammogram was only picking up milk that was still in my breasts (true enough, I still had a little bit of leaking for several months). I had never heard that it was possible to get a suspicious mammogram reading after breastfeeding, and wonder how common this is.
