Hi Lorrie,

Bed rest can be very difficult. I was on bedrest in the hospital for the final weeks of my last pregnancy this past year.

I don't have any advice on the medical questions you asked but perhaps I can give you a few other tips and suggestions.

Keep everything within reach (or get it there). This includes the phone, tv remote, computer mouse/keyboard, a cooler with beverages and healthy snacks, stationary/address book/stamps, pregnancy/childbirth books, any other small projects you may have begun and never had time to finish (for me it was hand-quilted XMas stockings), needlepoint, mending, knitting/crocheting, etc.. This is also a good time to do those things you never had time to do like certain books you may have wanted to read or movie videos you haven't seen yet.

Are you allowed to do any bedrest exercises? I read about some not too long ago that are specifically designed for pregnant women on complete bedrest. The movements are very subtle but I bet they would feel good. When I was on bedrest nobody mentioned exercises and I felt like all the prenatal toning and strengthening I had done was quickly disappearing. You can begin to feel loose and out of shape very quickly when you are in bed all day! If you are allowed to do these let me know and I will retrieve the book from the library and "talk" you thru them.

Do you have any other children? Or will you be alone all day?

If there is any one piece of advice I would give you it's this: This little baby inside you needs to stay there for as long as possible. YOU are the only one who can do this for your child. This is a great opportunity to have some quality "Momma/Baby" time. I just loved the quiet hours I spent with my baby. When I was at home going about my daily business I was aware of him and felt his movements but when I was "alone" with him for so long I really got to know the little guy's routine and character. It's a wonderful time to be a mother!

Keeping a journal is a great idea too.

If you want to communicate off the list, please drop me a line.
