Doctors with young childrenFrom: Holly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 27 Jul 1997 20:46:17 -0500 (CDT)
An early message about children's interests made me think of an activity I thought I'd share. I had a doctor's child in care once and the family was having a terrible struggle with dad getting sleep after being on call because his son wanted to jump on the bed and play with dad. Locking the door didn't work as his son just pounded relentlessly. Finally, we took a large piece of tagboard and cut it in a circle. The child painted the board and decorated it in bright festive colors. Then, on one side we put pictures of dad sleeping. On the other side, we put pictures of dad awake. When dad was desperate for shut eye, he hung the "sleeping dad" on the bedroom door or the refrigerator. When it was okay to wake him up, mom would flip it to the "awake dad." It worked for them.
