Unfortunately, most girls have very limited choices once they become pregnant at an early age. As of the last time I checked the stats, about 1/3 or so, of all the "single-parent" pregnancies are to girls under the age of 18. They are very vulnerable psycho-socially. Lack of education (from dropping out of school) and resources (from being unskilled in the labor market) makes it very difficult for them to just survive. More has GOT to be done to educate these kids in preventing pregnancy and contracting STDs. Most teenagers (and many adults as well) do not worry about contracting diseases because they think... "It will never happen to me." How do I explain to these kids how easily the STDs are contracted? They don't understand the abstract concepts (that seem simple to many people) of "if you have sex, protected or not, you face the possibility of catching or spreading a disease". How do I explain to them in concrete terms that if this "factor" is present, then do not have sex. Help! I need some more concrete info like you gave about the genital warts. Particularily info on Herpes. The viruses are the least understood of all the STDs to the kids I have worked with... Thanks again, angie
