The first infection was finally healed using flagyl and cleocin (after my doctor prescribed numerous creams and diflucan to combat the yeast infection I never had). I have since changed doctors, and am very pleased so far. My question, however, is how can this infection be prevented? What causes it? I realize it has to do with gardnerella vaginalis, but what does that mean to me? Could my oral contraceptives make me more suseptible? Is it a hygiene problem? Please help me understand.
