Pregnancy and Eating DisordersFrom: Anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 9 Jul 1997 14:45:01 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Docs, Just heard from a close friend that she is pregnant. LMP June 7-14 and HPtest was "very" positive. I am very worried because she has rejuvinated a old eating problem--Bulemia. Any advice on how to work with her through her pregnancy and encourage her? She was about 125 lbs last January and is below 100lbs now ( she is petite anyway). she looks skinny but still has meat on her bones. She knows she has the problem but is stuck for getting help. Do you as professionals ever work with other docs to help with situations like this? Do you say something when you see a potential eating disorder? I think she is willing to get help but is not sure where to go. If her potential OB referred her I think she would get help, would it be un-tactful to contact her OB and tell him /her about her problem? We are very close friends even though we live far away and I want to help as much as possible. I was the first one she told--even before her husband! And she picked out my daughters name! I care deeply but am not sure where to go form here. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks Anne N.
