Are there any drugs which I can >take instead of resorting to surgery which I am so terrified of? > >Thank you for your kind attention. >Please reply asap. The indications for hysterectomy in patients with uterine fibroids are as follows: Asymptomatic leiomyomata of such size that they are palpable abdominally and are a concern to the patient. Excessive uterine bleeding evidenced by either of the following: profuse bleeding with flooding or clots or repetitive periods lasting for more than 8 days or anemia due to acute or chronic blood loss. Pelvic discomfort caused by myomata that is either acute and severe, chronic lower abdominal or low back pressure, or bladder pressure with urinary frequency not due to urinary tract infection. Some might add rapid growth in a postmenopausal patient due to concern for the development of a malignancy. (This is extemely uncommon..) If you are terrified of surgery, you might discuss the use of medication.. There are several medications that have been useful in the management of pain secondary to fibroids.. A second opinion is always wise prior to surgery.. Goos luck..
