QuestionFrom: skylark (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 30 Jun 1997 12:12:46 -0500
I have been on birth control pills for about two years now, Orthocept. Before I began the pills my periods were always regular, about 30 days apart, they would last only 3 to 4 days and were heavy; no spotting before or after. Also before I began the pills I never had "PMS" so to speak, no cramping, bloating, or mood swings, etc. For the past two years since I've been taking the pills my periods have been the same as far as length and being heavy; but since beginnning the pills I've had some cramping, nothing major, and my doctor said it was nothing to worry about. Ok, here is my problem/question now. Normally my period begins the day I take the second placebo pill for that month, last 3 to 4 days, and then is over. For the past two months though, it has changed. I have been spotting some the entire month between my periods. Also, my period has begun about a week before taking the first placebo pill. So I'm bleeding lightly for about a week while I'm still taking the active pills, and then I bleed heavily for about 5 days after beginning the placebo pills. This worries me for several reasons. First because it isn't normal for me, something isn't right. Second because I am worried that my birth control isn't as effective now, if at all (yes, we have been using extra protection just in case). Third because my doctor doesn't seem to feel it is worth worrying about or taking the time to check on. I made an appointment to speak with him, to discussion what's been happening, and after listening he just said (as he was walking out the door) that it probably isn't anything to worry about, and that I should just let him know in another month or so if it is still happening. I wasn't happy with his lack of concern, and the way he just kind of brushed me off and rushed out. Needless to say I am looking for a new doctor (this isn't the first time I've had problems with him). But until I can find a new doctor and get another appointment, I was hoping someone on here might be able to give me some clue as to what is going on. Thanks, Jessy
