Judi-

The hysterectomy solved both "problems". Adenomyosis is actually an extremely common finding on a path report, and refers to a situation where the lining of the uterus, the endometrium, grows into the muscular layer of the uterus. It is probably asymptomatic in most women, but can cause heavy and painful periods, pelvic pain and pressure, or an enlarged uterus. Treatment is either via non-narcotic pain meds, hormonal therapy, or surgery (i.e. hysterectomoy). Again, it usually requires no treatment and is not precancerous.

Proliferative hyperplasia, if I'm reading your path report right, refers to a normal situation where the endometrial lining "proliferates" during the early part of the menstrual cycle. This is normal. Hyperplasia refers to a little bit of excessive growth of the endometrium, but in some cases can be precancerous (if there is atypia). If your path report showed no atypia, it's a normal finding. Even if it did show atypia, however, hysterectomy is certainly curative! So, I wouldn't "watch out" for anything related to these, and you do not need hormone levels (which are almost never useful, anyway, other that for certain infertility situations). Every woman develops a proliferative endometrium, and although it's related to estrogen, it's a normal and necessary function of the reproductive organs.

Take care, and good luck on your recovery from surgery.
