Frequent PeriodsFrom: Vivian (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 28 Jun 1997 02:56:04 -0500 (CDT)
Five weeks ago, I had a laporotomy to remove pelvic adhesions and scar tissue. I had been experiencing increasingly severe pain and frequent periods for several months. (Heavy, frequent periods and spotting with bad cramps have been going on for several years.) The doctor found that I had mild endo, but alot of adhesions. The laporotomy was needed because a blood vessel was cut. The dr. also did a D&C for the irregular bleeding. Since the surgery, I have experienced bleeding twice. The week after surgery, for 5 days(light period) and then two weeks later for 12 days (light to very heavy with large clots.) The doctor gave me progesterone 2 days ago. Now I am only spotting and it seems to be going away. I still have pain, but not as severe as before surgey. Over the years, I have tried birth-control pills and depo-provera to regulate my periods and control the bleeding. With everything, I had breakthrough bleeding (with the Depo-Provera I spotted constantly for several months.) My question is, what could be causing the bleeding? My doctor has suggested Lupron for six months or a hysterectomy. (I am very anemic since the surgery.) I don't plan on having more children and I am 30. The problems are interfering with my ability to work and take care of my kids. I do not want surgery again, but the possibility of continuing with this pain and frequent bleeding is worse to me. Will Lupron help, or will it just delay a Hysterectomy.? Is there anything else that could be causing the bleeding that the dr. may have missed? I am sorry this is so long winded. I am returning to the dr. in a few days and really don't know what to ask him. I also need to get these problems under control before I return to work (two months.) I really appreciate any response! Thanks!!!
