50 ug (micrograms) is equivalent to 0.05 mg (milligrams). This commonly pops up in dosing of levothyroxine or Synthroid, a thyroid hormone replacement: doseages are commonly written as "0.1 mg" or "100 ug," for example.

There are mixed opinions on this. In general it seems that the patch has the same effects as the pill but may take higher doses to achieve as great effects. Most people, however, consider the 0.05 mg patch an effective replacement dose. As with most medications, the lowest possible effective dose is what is recommended. You should probably be getting your lipids checked every three to five years, as well.

Do you see any reason not to augment my 0.05 mg patch >with a daily dose of soy?

No, I don't. Preliminary evidence shows good changes associated with soy related to lipid levels--favorable lipid profiles and decreased atherogenesis (in monkeys).

So am I. Hmmm, wonder if we should all buy some stock.... :-)
