Chronic Bladder InflammationFrom: Ellen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 25 Jun 1997 22:02:29 +0000
Hello all, I know this isn't a Urology Forum, but I was hoping some of the ob/gyns or women on this forum may have some insight about a bladder question. I recently underwent surgery for endometriosis. During the surgery, a cystoscopy was performed to look for suspected bladder endo. The cystoscopy revealed multiple polyps and an inflammed bladder. Several polyps were removed and sent to pathology, the remainder were lasered. A bladder biopsy was taken as well. The pathology report shows mild chronic inflammation of the polyps; the bladder mucosa shows "squamous metaplasia and chronic inflammation." Although I have not yet had a chance to follow-up with either my gyn or urologist about this specifically (I've been healing from a bowel wedge resection instead!), I am concerned about this path report. For those of you who have encountered such a finding before, does it (can it) be suggestive of a pre-cancerous state? What does "chronic bladder inflammation" usually mean? Interstitial cystitis? I really don't want another chronic, misunderstood, and difficult to diagnose and treat condition... (sigh) Thanks for any input or insight, Ellen Johnson Houston, TX
