incompetent cervix??????????From: jamie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 24 Jun 1997 19:31:10 -0500 (CDT)
In December I had a miscarriage at 14 weeks the doctors said it seemed like I had an incompetent cervix but the only thing stopping them from believing that was I have a son whose birth weight was 8lbs 3oz!! I did not have any problems at all with him. When I got pregnant the second time, I was told the baby might be in the tubes, but when I was checked out they said, no it was in the uterus. At 13 weeks a clot came out on Monday and by Thursday (at my regular visit) they did an ultrasound and said the baby and the placenta was all normall and my chances of a miscarriage were very slim at this point. Friday afternoon I was bleeding heavy and went back that's when they told me I was miscarring and I had to come back home and wait. Saturday I went back do to the fact there was a foul order to the discharge but no blood. That's when they took the final sonogram and told me, the baby was still alive but the placenta at that point was covering the baby. They gave me the option of the cerclage, but as I was standing there talking with the doctor. I started bleeding heavily. They had admitted me at that point I had severe pains for approx an hour and then after I passed a huge clot they eased up, and by 1:00am. on Sunday, I had to have a D&C. Now, everything is good with me as far as I know, but they can't tell me if I have an incompetent cervix and they also said they can't check until I get pregnant again. I have heard so many different things about the cervix-- I was wondering if anyone could help me with some questions like, Could it really have been an incompetent cervix with all the pain and having a 8lb 3oz healthy baby before???? And if I get pregnant again what should I look for and what are some ideas to help me through this? Thanks sorry so long, just very confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know if I am worrying for anything or not. Jamie
