Re: Painful intercourse

Hi -

I have had painful intercourse for most of my 14 years of marriage. It also put a tremendous strain on our marriage, especially when some of the first doctors suggested that since they couldn't find any cause that it might be in my head. Unfortunately, my husband started to believe them. Going to counseling saved our marriage. This was 7 years ago. I strongly advise it.

Also, from the research I have done, and from the better doctors I have had, this problem in the past was frequently dismissed. However, in the past decade or more, it has become much more common, and so there has been much more work done in finding causes. You should be able to find a doctor who will listen and believe you. Good Luck. (PS the hard part is getting a correct diagnosis since there are many different causes for painful intercourse)
