Cervical Tear Not HealingFrom: Kristen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 14 Jun 1997 21:20:17 -0500 (CDT)
About a year ago my doctor found a tear on my cervix. He originally prescribed MetroGel. When that didn't work, he started silver nitrate treatments every three weeks. The tear finally started getting smaller and eventually (I thought) healed about five months ago. Since my original visit with this problem, I've had a pap every six months which comes back abnormal. Just before my scheduled pap last week, I noticed the pain of the tear was back and discovered that the tear had reopened. He applied the silver nitrate and performed a biopsy (again) just to be safe. We cannot think of any reason that this tear would have occurred originally or reoccurred now. My problem is that the doctor suggests pricey laser surgery to try to heal the tear since it hasn't healed over the past year even with the previous treatments. I have recently started a new job and have new insurance that will only pay a small amount for pre-existing conditions. Can anyone suggest alternatives that his group (he works with 4 other OBGYNs) might not have thought of? My doctor says he's been very proud of my 'attitude' about this whole thing, but I'm starting to get a little worried and frustrated and just want this over and done. Any advice would ease my mind. Thank you in advance.
