-- I would like to add that correction of the pelvic organ prolapse can also be performed adequately through the abddominal route. In the most recent (and only to my knowledge) prospective randomized trial comparing abdominal and vaginal reconstructive approaches the abdominal route proved superior. It also allows for abdominal correction of urinary stress incontinence which has also been shown to be superior over the vaginal route.
