Asthma during pregnancyFrom: Nicole (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 3 Jun 1997 16:47:23 -0500 (CDT)
I am searching for a second opinion regarding asthma during pregnancy. During my eleventh week (I am now in my eighteenth week) of pregnancy I was diagnosed with asthma. I had been experiencing a persistent cough that resulted in a broken rib. My internist perscribed pirbuterol and azmacort, two different inhalers (which were ok'd by my OB) to take until the cough was gone. They effectively got rid of this cough. Also, all of my life, on occassion, I have been experiencing tightness in my chest and shortness of breath. I never "turn blue" or "feel tingly." However, every so often, I get lightheaded (which I've been told can be from the pregnancy itself). My question is, is this tightness and shortness of breath harming my child in any way (neurologically, physical development, etc.)? Or, is it getting enough oxygen as long as I am breathing?
