We decided together that though the option of a shot every three months was a wonderful concept, the lack of sex drive was just not acceptable. My question ... Is the lack of sex drive a side effect of the depo or could it possibly be something else? I have been on birth control pills now for 4 months and everything is still the same but I've read that it can take months for my body to get back to normal after depo. Any comments and/or answers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!>>>>

Evelyn~

I am certainly not a health professional by telling you this, but I have 2 friends who got the Depo shot also...one of them didn't get a period at all, and the other bled continiously for the entire time she was getting the shots. I can only recall one of them saying she lost interest in sex while using the shot---her husband said Depo makes an excellent choice of birth control because there's no sex drive there anyway!! ;-)

If you have had children, and don't desire to have anymore, have you ever considered trying an IUD?? I just had one inserted about 3 months ago, and love it! No hormones involved (like I need any more of those!), and nothing to remember to take. The type I have is called ParaGard (T380A) and is over 99% effective. It will have to be removed in only 10! years. There is another type called Progesta-sert (sp?) which is good for 1 year--then it needs to be replaced because it has hormones which would no longer be effective. My GYN said he would like to see more women consider the IUD as a choice of BC...they're nothing like the IUD's of the 70's that we hear so many horror stories about. (although, I had the Copper-7 13 years ago with no problems)

Sorry this got so long...hope it helps some!!
