Ovulation with no periods?From: Pamela (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 28 May 1997 19:08:37 -0500 (CDT)
This is the entire story so please bare with me. Four years ago, I had 3 ovarian cysts rupture at seperate times. My doctor put me on Depo Provera to suppree ovulation. I have had no other cysts, but the Depo Provera caused me to bleed constantly for 2 and a half years., non-stop! My doctor then put me on hormone replacemnet therapy, I didn't stop bleeding so she did a D&C procedure. I still continued to bleed so she then put me on the Depot Lupron shot, once a month for 5 months. My last shot was taken on July 4, 1996 and I have not had a period since. I went for an appointment in March and after a vaginal ultrasound, she told me that my ovaries were not functioning and that my uterus looked post-menopausal! I am 24 years old. It was suggested to me to talk to the patient affairs advocate (As I am on an Air Force base in Japan) so I did! Yesterday, another doctor from the clinic called me and said that I could still be ovulating, I just wasn't having periods? I don't understand. I also asked if the long term side effects of Lupron were known and after much "hee-hawing" around he told me no. That the side affects should have been discusssed with me, which they were not (except for hot flashes). He gave me the option of coming in for blood work to see if I am ovulating, but I feel that I am battling a losing cause. I can only see the Dr. on the base, and if I didn't know better I would think that they are just sticking by one anothers side for rank reasons! Any suggestions on what I should do next or not do would be greatly appreciated. Thank-You for your help!
