There are two circumstances I can think of where this happens--in menopause, as you suggest, or at mid-cycle. If it were mid-cycle, you'd expect a period roughly two weeks later (sounds like you had one). Perimenopausally, FSH levels rise slowly overall, and it's not unusual for them to fluctuate fairly widely. Abnormal uterine bleeding is also very common in the perimenopausal period. Sorry I can't give you more information; sometimes even with more information, it is hard to diagnose menopause or perimenopause. I hope you are getting the help you need in figuring out your irregular bleeding.
