Re: elective caesarean section delivery

Dear Ms. Tice,

For every option there is a good and bad side. I too had a c-section for my first birth. My daughter was very large and didn't descend at all into my pelvis. I had 27 hours of labor and then opted for the section. My daughter was born healthy and happy with no complications. Thinking it was great to have a neatly intact peritonium I thought that the next kids would be delivered this way also. This thought didn't last long. I was in good physical health and achieved my prepregnacy weight at 4 weeks post partum. However my insides were a mess within 3 months. I had numerous adhesions and my uterus had grown into and around my bladder at the c-section site. I then had two laparoscopies and many months of recooperating. I still have not fully recovered and my daughter is 14 months old. For every mom who has had a c-section with no problems you can bet there is one out there who has. I'm not saying that this happens all the time but it CAN happen. Why not see how it goes? If you need a c-section after hours of no progress then you can make this decision. WHO KNOWS MAYBE YOUR LABOR WOULD BE A BREEZE?? MAYBE YOU WON'T NEED AN EPISIOTOMY? It is better to go with the low risk option than jump headlong onto the operating table. Hope everything works out healthy, happy and safe.
