My Thoughts On Mother's Day

Hi everyone,

Well it's that time of year again, when we honner Mothers!

I for one have always found this day both happy and sad. I'm happy I am a mother as I have had great joy from being one, but sometimes over the years one or another of my four have been out of the loop or upset with my mothering style so of course those are not happy times for me.

This is a tough, difficult job and not always one that makes everyone like you all on the same day..

This year I seem to have upset at least one of my children by the fact that I am buying a house in Austin and I didn't discuss it with the family first. WELL, I'm 61, widowed last year and also went through all the things one must deal with when they have breast cancer, chemo, radiation, surgery, loss of hair ect. and just decieded to have my dream. So tomorrow will not be a day that ALL my children are happy with me!

I have given this great thought and I have decided that it is time for me to be selfish and to do what makes Me happy for the first time in my life.

It is not easy for a Mom to be selfish as we have always been the one to give up our dreams for the greater needs of our family.

I'm also sad this year because my mother is not here any longer, she died last year. It was always so wonderful to have that one person in my life that always thought everything I did was great. She always wanted to hear everything I was doing and was supportive of the choices I made. She is sadly missed by our family.

Mother's Day is also difficult for those of you who want so much to becomes mothers. You have a right to your dream and the deep sorrow you feel for not attaining it will make this a sad day.

I will close this with a quote from my youngest son who when I told him I had bought a "home for me", was, "Mom, spend your money anyway you want too, don't worry about leaving me any because you have already given me a million dollars worth of LOVE".

Tomorrow when I wake up those words will be my Mother's Day gift.

Have a good day tomorrow and do something nice for all the mothers, the want-to-be mothers and all the people that are giving of themselves to children all over the world.

Being a Mother is still the best, most rewarding, and sometimes difficult job in the world and I for one am glad I got the Job!!!
