If these early signs are not heeded or in some cases do not occur, then later in the pregnancy if it ruptures shoulder pain and/or shock can occur. If the early symptoms are brought to the attention of the caregiver, a transvaginal ultrasound can be done. If the fetus is seen in the uterus then things are cool(at least there is 1 intrauterine pregnancy for sure). If no fetus is seen in the uterus, then a quantitative Beta HCG test is done. Beta HCG is the hormone measured in a pregnancy test. In this case we want to know HOw much of it is in the patients blood? If the level is above 2000 mIU/ml and there is no fetus in the uterus, there is an ectopic pregnancy somewhere or a miscarriage has recently occurred. At this point we will repeat the Beta HCG and ultrasound in 48 hours. If the Beta HCG has fallen by 50 % then there has been a miscarriage. If it has not fallen 50%, then there should be an ectopic pregnancy and it should be treated. Ovarian Hyperstimulation is a totally diferent subject and if it occurs it is dangerous. It rarely happens with Clomid. It can occur much more commonly with pergonal. If you have further questions re: this check with your physician who put you on the clomid.
