Ann,

A couple of comments about your "friend". First, it is not at all uncommon to have little or no period when one is on an oral contraceptive for a long time. This is not a sign that anything is wrong or that changes in pill brand is needed.

About these recurrent pelvic "infections". Sounds like a laparoscopy will help to distinguish between the syptoms and signs of infection and the actual diagnosis, which might really be infection or could be endometriosis, adhesions or another obscure problem like internal hernia, Meckel's diverticulum or other bowel disease.
