Sometimes miscarriages are due to vascular problems, hypertension, poor implantation of the embryo, and many other causes. It is true that chromosomal abnormalities are the most common cause and bedrest won't help at all. For some of the other causes, decreasing activity may help. There is no good scientific evidence that it does, but it certainly won't hurt. Most women would hang upside down by their toes if they thought there was the slightest chance it might help prevent a miscarriage.

It's very important to reassure your friend that nothing (short of doing lots of drugs) she does -- or doesn't do -- will cause her to miscarry. Best of luck to her.
