Re: + Preg test resultsFrom: D. Ashley Hill, M.D. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 18 Apr 1997 22:51:22 -0500 (CDT)
It sounds quite possible that you are pregnant, but you will need to have the test taken at the doctor's office in the next few days. A false-positive pregnancy test is possible due to certain situations, most commonly user error, but most of the modern tests are very accurate. Since you have had a BTL (bilateral tubal ligation) you are at serious risk for an ectopic pregnancy, and should be under the care of a doctor experienced in that condition (ie a gynecologist). The risk of an ectopic depends on the technique used, the medical history of the patient, the time since it was performed, and the experience of the surgeon. The rule for patients who become pregnant after a BTL is "ectopic until proven otherwise". So, I would let your doctor know, so he or she can perform a pregnancy test and, if positive, start the workup to see if it's in the uterus or the tubes. Good luck. I'll keep my fingers crossed! Ashley
