Re: Bleeding & Bromocriptin

Linda, I'm rollin' up my sleeves for this one! I'm going to reprint your initial post and answer your questions with your reply.

For about 5 weeks now I have been on 1.25 mg of Bromocriptin a day. My prolactin has dropped from mid 200's to about 87. I think I still have a teeny bit of milk still, but it looks less. I am on day 22 of the first full cycle taking the drug and so far I think I see improvment. lLast few months I would start bleeding/staining around day 19. Until today I was OK and now I have some slight staining. My questions are: Should I consider this an improvement and just be patient over the course of a few months? , Would the Bromocriptin take time to 100% cure my bleeding if the Prolactin was the initial cause?

I'd like to know if you had an MRI to look for a microadenoma of the pituitary. With a level of >100, there is an 85% chance of this. At 200, it's obviously greater. With a microadenoma of the pituitary ( a benign but still potentially dangerous enlargement of the pituitary gland), treatment with Parlodel is a long time thing, possibly forever.

First, it is important to get the prolactin in the normal or near normal range. Pregnancy will make the pituitary enlarge and elevate the prolactin, so be prepared for this. Many patients are on Parlodel (bromocriptine) until the diagnosis of pregnancy is made and then they're taken off. First things first. Get the MRI of the pituitary.

Oh, your welcome :-)
