ER negative and breast cancerFrom: Nellaine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 9 Apr 1997 06:58:11 -0500 (CDT)
I am confused about estrogen receptors and breast cancer. I am 42 and had infiltrating lobular bc, bilateral mastectomy. My tumor receptors were ER neg and PR positive @ 12%. My Oncologist plans to give me tamoxifen. My oncologist said that I could have ER positive receptors but due to the time of the month - or where I was in my cycle - when the tumor was removed the ER receptors could have been a false negative because I am pre-menopausal. I would appreciate any information related to this concept: False ER negative tumor as a function of where in the woman's cycle the tumor was removed.
