The idea of a Preconception visit has not caught on with some obstetrical providers. It essentially is an annual exam with a focus on what sorts of things one needs to consider before planning a pregnancy. In our office we do have Preconception appointments, and also periodically offer a Preconception Class that allows a group to meet together and ask questions. We review the essentials with them. One of our OBGYN's teach the class with me and we have a blast. It's wonderful to see motivated folks who want to have healthy pregnancies. We talk about smoking, decreasing stress and appropriate nutritiion. Look in your area for such a class being offered by particular providers or by hosptials. Also, CNMs and ARNPs are very supportive of Preconception visits, and perhaps that is a nice place to start. These are not intented to be infertility consults, however, as that becomes a more specific focus of an office visit. Pat
