Dear janet,

Supra cervical hysterectomy is a more simple way to perform the intervention. That's all. Removing the cervix has no disadvantage and has two main advantages. 1) Vaginal hysterectomy can't be done supracervically; 2) No cervix means no cervical cancer risk any longer. So if my mother or my wife would need an hysterectomy for a non malignant reason I would say : Total Vaginal Hysterectomy.
