It has been over five years since I have had a normal menstrual cycle. I became pregnant with my first child in January of 1992, gave birth in October of that year, and nursed her until she was 19 months. While nursing, when she was 1 year old, we decided we wanted to try and have another child, so I cut back on one of my daily feedings, got 1 period in November of 1993 and was pregnant again in December of that year. I gave birth to my second child in September, 1994, nursed him for one year, and in September of 1995, stopped nursing altogether, expecting to resume a normal mestrual cycle. To date, over 18 months since I stopped nursing, I have not yet had a period. My doctors have taken blood tests, and my level of prolactin is about 45....not particularly high. I have had other blood tests done as well, and at one point, my doctor put me on Provera for 10 days, and I still did not get a period. Both of my doctors say I am not going through early menopause and that in time, I will eventually get back to normal. Believe me, I don't mind not having a period, but I am curious as to how common my condition is and why the Provera did not work. Any feedback I can get will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
