Hashimotos Thyroiditis and pregnancy????From: Carol (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 25 Mar 1997 19:03:40 -0600 (CST)
I was diagnosed with Hashimotos in Dec 96, a few days after I found out I was pregnant. My thyroid hormone level was unstable for a couple months (went from high to low) and I was on PTU and now am fairly stable on synthroid 125ug. I miscarried at 12 weeks after my levels were fairly stable (low normal). I have found some sites on the internet that indicate that the antibodies present from Hashimotos can cause recurrent pregnancy loss. I have also read that there is no relationship. I know I have only had one miscarriage and am therefore not considered a habitual miscarrier but my son was stillborn 6 months before the miscarriage, from a cord accident, and I don't think I can emotionally handle losing another baby. Are peroxidase antibodies a cause for miscarriage? I have also heard that low thyroid levels can suppress progesterone. Is this true? Thanks in advance Carol
