MenstruationFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 5 Mar 1997 13:55:03 -0500 (EST)
Hi all--I'd like to take this chance to thank everyone for their great quesions and answers. I've learned very much in such a short period of time. My question: I most always got my period every 25 days after the birth of my daughter 16 mos. ago. This past month, I waited, and before I knew it, my period was at least 12 days late. Did 2 home pregnancy tests, both negative. Called OB/GYN, and talked with their Nurse Practicioner. She told me sometimes the HCG levels are too low so early on in a pregnancy, which might cause a urine test to give a false-negative. This past Friday, after doing my THIRD test (negative), I got my period. I planned on getting an IUD, and called the NP again to set up a time to have it inserted. They could only take me Monday, which was fine, because I'd surely still have my period then. Well, my period stopped on about Sunday. It wasn't even enough to use 2 pads it was so slight. I went for my appt. anyway, and was told I need to have a blood (pregnancy) test. NP called back with negative results, and said to wait till next period for the IUD. I asked her why this is happening like this, (I've always been regular--every 25-30 days, lasting about 5-6 days) and she said I might have had an 'an-ovulatory' period. She said my eggs are getting 'old' :-p and I might need a progesterone supplement. (I'm only about to turn 34--still 'young' in my book) My question is, is this common? Are there any side-effects to the progesterone supplements? She told me a supplement would regulate my periods--are these long term? Sorry to make this so long--any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance! Sherri
