Theoretically, it is possible to perform preimplantation genetic diagnosis after doing IVF. The 8 cell embryo can be biopsied, and checked to make sure its chromosomes are normal, before transferring it into the uterine cavity. However, if you do not know what genetic tests to perform, this is not a feasible option. After all, one cannot test a single cell for all possible genetic abnormalities !
