MENOPAUSE: signs of decreased estrogen?From: KellyJean (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 29 Jun 2009 11:57:26 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I am trying to figure out if I am having increased or decreased estrogen levels. I have lost about 20 pounds since mid April, have eliminated all fast food, diet and regular soda, and have cut dairy back to just milk for my cereal ( RBST free) and occasional ice cream- no more than once per week. I am taking Estrosense, B complex vitamins, turmeric, and enzymes. I have several fibroids- to the point where my utuerus is 12 weeks size. The two largest fibroids are about the size of lemons. I also have a complex ovarian cyst. I am 41, and have been having what appears to be peri-menopause symptoms for about 2 years. My cycles are no longer regular, and bleeding is getting lighter. I now have hot flashes, stiffness, if I stay in one position too long, cold flashes, dizzy spells, increased headaches, and bouts of sadness. I am unable to determine based on research if this is from lowering estrogen levels or rising levels. In trying to research this, it seems that sadness and headaches could be from either higher or lower levels of estrogen. I am continuing to work on losing weight- I have around 50 more pounds to lose and I am watching my diet very carefully. Wondering what else I can do to try and lower or balance estrogen levels as I am trying to keep the fibroids from growing any larger. I have not had children, and my mom, who had two, hit menopause at 47 or 48. My mom used hormonal birth control (I have not), and she skipped many periods due to being underweight in her 20's. I have never skipped a period. I am concerned about HRT down the road, as my mom turned out to be estrogen dominant, and developed HER-2+ breast cancer several years after being on Premarin. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks
-- Kelly
