PREGNANCY: normal progesterone levels in first trimesterFrom: TK (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 17 Jun 2009 13:14:34 -0500 (CDT)
I have just recently found out I am pregnant. I am currently just over 5 weeks pregnant. I have been dealing with infertility treatments on and off for the last 3 years due to PCOS. I finally decided to stop the fertility treatments 3 mths ago and just continue with the metformin (I am of normal weight 5'4" 122lbs) and have conceived as naturally as possible. Due to this I am nervous not to take my dr's advise but I am not huge on taking MORE medication. I have been told conflicting information in regards to my current progesterone levels. I had blood work done 17 dpo and my hCG was 273 and progesterone was 51. I had follow up bloodwork done 21 dpo and my hCG was 960 and my progesterone was 48. My dr called and recommended I take a progesterone(Prometrium) supplement of 100 mg daily to be safe. I obviously don't want to take a risk but I am really tired of pumping myself full of medication unneccessarily. Do progesterone levels normally rise as well? or do they stay more constant? So I be concerned with a difference of 3 in a 4 day period? Will taking the prometrium orally really make any difference? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
