MENORRHAGIA: Is it normal for one's periods to become like lochia as she ages? From: Gwen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 17 Mar 2009 12:50:46 -0500 (CDT)
I'm a 32-yr old mother of 2 boys, ages 7 and 2. My overall health is quite good. In the last year, I've noticed my periods starting to change. They now seem to have a "false start" each month, and then come on heavy the next day, when about 85% of my flow occurs on that single day, tapering off over another 2 days afterward. In the past, my flow has been much more gradual. But what's REALLY interesting is that my flow has consistently started resembling lochia each month, in that it is more watery and more of a orangish color than bright red, and even SMELLS like lochia. Are these symptoms consistent with someone who is approaching early menopause (my paternal grandmother went through menopause at 35), or could this be a symptom of something more serious?
