GYNECOLOGIC: D&C w/Uterine Perforation, DIC, colostomy & now continuous period for over 2 wksFrom: Gina (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 14 Mar 2009 21:09:40 -0500 (CDT)
Well here is my story... I gave birth on 10/10/08 & immediately after I severely hemorrhaged (no ultrasound was performed at the time). I again severely hemorrhaged twice within 3 weeks after I came home. The last time (November 6th) led to an emergency D&C to remove remaining placenta, which during the procedure my uterus was perforated with the instrument and because of that the instrument then bruised my bowel which led to a temporary colostomy. And unknowingly I also developed D.I.C. which was finally realized during these operations. (My hemoglobin was at 2.6 at one point) I spent 11 days in the hospital which consisted of 5 days in ICU. I'm lucky to be alive! Anyway, I of course was not looking forward to my next period, but it finally came on 12/31/08 (happy new year to me!) and lasted for only a full day. Then again I got a heavy period on 01/09/09 and it lasted 2 days. I didn't get another period until 02/09/09 in which that one lasted a few days. That one too was heavy as well. I had the colostomy reversed on 02/23/09. I spent 4 days in the hospital. And the day after I came home from the hospital I got my period again and has been non-stop since then. It is now over 2 weeks since I came home. It's not a heavy period but enough to keep me worried. I don't have a fever and I'm not sure about the cramping as I'm still recovering from the surgery. I do have quite a bit of hair loss which I've consulted with my hematologist and he ran a thyroid test, CBC & Chem-7 and they came back fine. I've also been resolved of the D.I.C. before I went into surgery and my surgeon says the reversal went "better than expected" so I can rule that out. My question is "why do I have this continuous period?" I know stress & anxiety can cause it. I also know surgery can throw it off but this is getting crazy! By the way, I haven't contacted my OB/GYN as I'm seeing someone new next week to discuss my issues and develop a new relationship with a new doc. Can you help? Anyone?
