GENERAL: Dermoids or Teratomas?

What is the difference between dermoid and teratomas? I had surgery for dermoid tumors when I was 19. I had 2 on one ovary and 1 on the other. The tumor contained thyroid, hair, calcium (or teeth) skin, and fat. I met with a cancer geneticists this year (I'm 50 now) and he said it wasn't dermoids, but teratomas. (PS--because the doctor that did the surgery when I was 19, just cut out the tumors and re-sectioned my ovaries, I was able to have a child.--thanks Dr. Dorf)
