GENERAL: Funny Pap Smear Result

I have always had normal paps. I have never in my life had an abnormal one. At my last annual visit in January, my pap came back as "slightly abnormal" (I believe it was ASCUS). My dr told me to come back and repeat it in 6 months because the HPV test was negative. When I got home I was spotting and my full-fledged period started a few hours later. Could this have caused the strange result? Should I really be concerned about this? Thanks.
