GENERAL: I'm confusedFrom: Kim (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 26 Feb 2009 22:50:38 -0600 (CST)
Okay, I'm forty years old, was diagnosed with endometriosis via laparoscopy, and have never had children. Nine laps later (the last one was in June, 2008 for removal of endometriosis, adhesions, and one ovary & tube due to endometrioma) the pain has come back again and I saw my doctor yesterday because of this. He said he suspects I have adenomyosis also. I didn't have a period from November 4th through January 19th. I then had a period that has lasted since then...there are some days where there is just spotting, but mostly a bright red flow with some clots. I have also had a fever (99.0 - 101.3) for about 1 1/2 weeks. My doctor gave me provera to take for ten days, then wait fourteen days after my period stops and take for another ten days and he wants be to keep a diary of my bleeding and come back the end of April. He wants to address the adenomyosis, but after "we get the bleeding under control". My confusion is: since I am still bleeding, will the provera make the bleeding stop and then it will start again once I stop taking the provera? He said the goal is to have a 28 day cycle. He also said the next period after the first round of provera will probably be worse than the current one. I'm not sure how this can be because the cramps are so bad now. Also, when he did the exam yesterday it was extra painful...does anyone know if it would be the period that caused the extra pain or the adenomyosis? Would the adenomyosis cause the fevers? I have been told that hysterectomy is the only treatment for adenomyosis, but I'm not ready for that since I don't have any children yet. Are there any other options? I'm not currently sexually active, so I don't know if intercourse would be painful as well. I'm just really confused about what is going on with my body. By the way, I had an FSH level drawn right before my period started and it was 9, then they did an Estroidal level on day 2 of my period and it was 116. I'm not sure what this means, but they said that my irregular periods all of a sudden are not due to starting menopause.
