GYNECOLOGIC: Cervical Infection Following MiscarriageFrom: MayFlowers (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 26 Feb 2009 11:37:14 -0600 (CST)
Last week, I had a miscarriage. Before the miscarriage, I had scheduled my first prenatal appointment for yesterday. I forgot to cancel it after I lost the pregnancy, so I figured that I could use the appointment for my annual exam. During the pap there was endocervical friability. My OB/GYN prescribed me 1g of azithromycin PO in one dose. He did not seem alarmed and he indicated that he was prescribing it for an infection (obviously bacterial), however, I know that this is the usual treatment for Chlamydia or Gonorrhea. I am also aware that friability of the cervix is also a sign of these infections. I am wondering if the bleeding could be caused by the increased vascularity of the cervix due to the pregnancy. I am aware that the cervix may become friable in early pregnancy, but would it remain friable a week after miscarriage? My husband and I have not had intercourse since before the miscarriage as to prevent infection, I have not used tampons or douches, and I was only about 4 weeks pregnant at the time of the miscarriage.
