HYSTERECTOMY: Purpose of Uterus?

My history:I am 35 with 3 kids, last child was classic csection and tubal. I am done childbearing. I have also had a LEEP,cyst removed by ovary, Gastric bypass (LapRNY), a massive incisional hernia repair from csection (15x30 cm mesh patch) and adominoplasty/panniculectomy.

I have had problems with heavy bleeding since birth of youngest child (c section/tubal). Perhaps heavy bleeding was present prior but with hormone/birth contol was controlled. Was initially told it was due to obesity so I lost weight, now average weight/height (155/5'3). Recently discovered extremely anemic (7) and after checking fecal occult, diagnosed due to heavy bleeding. GYN has offered IUC-mirena which I declined due to previous experiences with hormones/birth control (extreme moodiness, depression and weight gain). GYN is now insisting on ablation? I can't bring myself to consider it, have done research... Not recommended or FDA approved for prior classic csection,40% effective, high rate of needing second procedure, cost effectiveness of 2 procedures etc, etc...I would just assume have hysterectomy and be done with the issue. I am assuming that I can have a Lap supracervial hyst. leaving the cervix and ovaries as I probably have 15 years to go until menopause.

Obviously I have been doing research and I am also seeking a second opinion as I cannot trust the dr who is recommending the ablation given my history. I understand that some women see losing their uterus makes them less of a woman, but they do not give up their life (luckily I am stay at home mom) for 10 days of the month. My anemia is severely affecting me cognitively and in my physical activities. I personally feel that since I am finished bearing children (had tubal) I no longer need a uterus.

Q: Is there a purpose for the uterus besides childbearing and maintaining the space between the bladder and bowels?
