GYNECOLOGIC: Ovarian and Gartner's Cyst

Hi I was at the hospital yesterday for a routine pap smear (I have had abnorminal ones in the past which resulted in a colposcopy).

I am trying for a baby and explained that since coming off the pill in Nov I have had two normal periods on the 10/12 and 08/01, then I had very light bleeding on the 28/01 that lasted 4 days. I have not had my period for Feb yet.

The Dr did an internal exam and found a cyst, she then did a vaginal ultrasound and found I have a 3cm cyst on my left ovary and a 3.6cm cyst on my vagina. I have to go back in six weeks to monitor these to see if they have grown any.

She did not give me any more info. I am Scottish but now living in Singapore, I decided to phone my GP to find out my case history as I had a miscarriage six years ago and I remember them mentioning I had an ovarian cyst then too. I was told that I had a cyst on my left ovary then too but no follow up was done to see if it had dissappeared. They also discovered a gartner's cyst and that, coupled with an abnormal smear, was the reason I had a gartner's cyst. The gartner's cyst has grown in size since six years ago. It does hurt sometimes when I have sex in certain positions and I always have a bloated stomach and suffer from diarrhea a lot. Could these cysts be contributing to this?

Also I've read that patients with Gartner's cysts have a high rate of spontaneous abortion (miscarriage), could this explain mine? If I had a cyst on my left ovary before and now again, is this something to worry about? Will this affect my fertility? Also having a gartner's cyst does that mean that I was maybe going to be a boy but nature changed it's mind and this is what's left over?

Any answers to my questions would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Sarah
