ITCHINGANDPAIN: vaginal itching and pain

i have had pain and itching on my outer vaginal area (labium majora) and back towards my anus for many years now. i have a dr's appt this afternoon but it is very embarrassing to me. the itching and pain is not constant and will come and go, although the last time it was from may until almost september. and now it has been about a month. i can remember suffering from it as far back as junior high, well before i was sexually active. i have asked a few drs about this and they all either brush it off as nothing (my last dr!!) or they think it is either a yeast infection (no treatment as EVER helped) or allergies. i do have many allergies and sensitivities, so it is possible but i have not been able to find any thing that helps once an "attack" starts. it usually starts near my anus with a little itching, it is on my skin on either side of the anus. then it moves ahead to my labia majora and if i rub too hard with toilet paper when i use the bathroom it gets really bad. i try to be super gentle with everything and i only ever wear cotton underwear, i use only natural soaps without chemicals, since i am allergic to "soap", i also put petroleum jelly when it starts. i have also tried antibiotic ointment and benydryl ointment. since i have allergies i have also tried taking benydryl overnight since it makes me sleepy. that did seem to help at first but it has not lately. i have also tried using aveeno soapless cleanser and spectro jel. it seemed that the spectro jel has made it much worse this last time. i always buy unscented products. i have unscented dryer sheets but my laundry detergent is not unscented, but i can't seem to find a connection to the laundry detergent.

there is itching and the pain is caused by my skin cracking and bleeding. i am married and have been with my husband nearly 9 years. we are monogamous. my husband has never had any problems to suggest that this may be contagious. it causes a lot of pain during intercourse and it really effects our physical relationship. if the pain is not really advanced intercourse seems to help. there is no discharge. it seems that my skin is peeling off in that area. the skin also seems a little thicker and maybe a little coarser than normal. it usually takes a few weeks after the itching goes away for the pain during intercourse to go away. it seems that the area is not as "flexible" as before. i am wondering if it is possible excema. i do have excema on my hands and i have problems with dry skin all over my body, especially in the winter.

thank you for reading my long post.
