CONTRACEPTION: Pelvic pain and spotting possibly related to mirena IUDFrom: kama (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 19 Feb 2009 22:58:56 -0600 (CST)
I don't know if anyone is going to be able to help me out here but I thought I would give it a shot, my problem is kind of complicated and I just don't know what to do. I do have an appointment with an OB/GYN next month but I am trying to find out if I should call and see if they can fit me in sooner. I requested a specific doctor so they may be able to see me sooner if I tell them I will see anyone. My immediate problem is that I am having unusual spotting (very light) and weird cramps, they feel "tight" similar to the cramps I had when I had my IUD in, they don't feel like typical period cramps at all. I get stabbing pain off and on mostly on the right side. This is very unusual for me I never have spotting or cramps between periods. My period was last week and it was a lot heavier/longer/more painful than normal, but it did go away, the spotting and the pain started again 3 days later and it is much more painful than normal.
There is some background information that might be important. I got a
Mirena IUD put in september 2006 after the birth of my daughter in
December of 2005. Prior to my pregnancy with my daughter I used
ortho-tricyclen Lo as birth control and I never had a problem with it.
>From after her birth until I got the IUD I used the Mini Pill and never I know I should have seen a doctor about this a long time ago but I keep hoping "next month" will be the one when it finally stops. I really really wanted the Mirena to work for me. I have always had heavy/long periods but they have always also been very regular. I used to have a 31 day cycle every single month without fail, even being one day late was very very rare and it was never early.
